What are bars in Shoreditch like?
There are all sorts of watering holes in Shoreditch and hundreds of places that guarantee a great night out. From elegant cocktail bars to live music venues and craft beer havens, any and every late-night reveller can find something they like in this neighbourhood. Without further ado, let’s dive into the best affordable bars in Shoreditch.
When it comes to epic happy hours, there’s nowhere better than Havanna. Located in Hoxton Square, this bar boasts a 5-hour happy hour every single day from 4pm - 9pm. With its neon-spiked tropical vibes, banging tunes and excellent selection of rums, Havanna never lets you down when you want a classic night out. Once you’re a few mojitos in, get started on some table football or have a go on their retro games consoles before tucking into a deep-dish Chicago-style pizza to soak up all the booze.
Sometimes you want a half-price cocktail and a good happy hour and sometimes you just want a good, old-fashioned cheap pint. Happily, Trapeze can sort you out with both. Oh, and it’s also circus-themed, but you probably guessed that from the name.
Before 7pm, you can get a pint for £3.50, a cocktail for a fiver and a whole bottle of Prosecco for just £15, which makes it one of the best places in Shoreditch for a post-work tipple.
The Ten Bells
This Spitalfields bar has been going since 1666 and still retains a lot of its olde time feel, with its chesterfield sofas and antique chandeliers. As well as a vintage atmosphere, you get a healthy dollop of history at the Ten Bells, which is known for its links to two of the Jack the Ripper murders. But we’re not here to talk about serial killers, we’re here to talk about cheap drinks and the Ten Bells has them by the bucketful. With spirit and mixers for under a fiver and pizza and a pint for £15, you’ll soon forget all about murder, except the one that happens on the dance floor, of course.
Old Street Records
If you’re looking for that holy trinity of live music, pizza and great drink deals, Old Street Records is your place. With BOGOF cocktails every day from 5pm-8pm, you can ensure you’ll be right in the party mood by the time the band starts and if you’ve gone too hard on the Martinis, sober up with a big, squashy pizza. We can’t think of anything better!
It’s not easy to find a bar and club that doesn’t charge entry, especially in Shoreditch, and Trafik is one of those rare gems that’s a real crowd pleaser. Each of the several rooms has its own DJ spinning smooth R’n’B and bouncy hip hop, the cocktails are both delicious and affordable and it’s one of the best places to shake your booty come Friday night.
A bar that’s hosted indie legends such as Bloc Party and Babyshambles could easily let those cool creds go to its head but instead, Catch retains a laid-back, inclusive atmosphere. It also has one of the best happy hours in Shoreditch with 2 cocktails, 4 beers or a bottle of wine for a tenner, every day until 9.30pm. Entry is free and they also make really good Mexican food. What did we do to deserve such a place?
Returning to London’s nightlife doesn’t mean having to give up all worldly pleasures; save your pounds this summer and hit up some of these cheap Shoreditch bars. With these student-friendly spots, you can get your live music in, sip a few cocktails and even have some grub and still have enough change for the bus home.
