What are Camden bars like?
Camden is known for its music scene and has a long history of hosting some of the country’s best bands across various venues. This means that the general vibe of the area’s bars is laid-back and inclusive with plenty of friendly pubs, old-school concert venues and casual boozers. However this is still London after all, so you’re also guaranteed to find some exciting, unique gems scattered around!
Best cheap bars in Camden
Located just off Camden High Street, Fifty Five hosts a winning combo of handsome barmen, great music and an extensive cocktail list (more than 160 last time we checked!) This place has been around for a while and is here for a good time and a long time. The huge choice of cocktails ranges from the classic to the inventive - their apple strudel concoction is like sipping a liquid, vodka-laced apple pie - and prices come in at well under a tenner for a drink. This, combined with an irresistible 2-4-1 Happy Hour from 6pm-8pm Monday to Saturday and all night on a Sunday, as well as great live music and themed nights (Hot Wings Wednesday, anyone?) makes Fifty Five a guaranteed good time spot in Camden.
Simmons is a local favourite in Camden, recognisable by its twinkly neon lights, flamingo motifs and disco skull. This quirky spot hosts DJs from Thursday to Saturday, regular quizzes, a bottomless Afternoon Tea and one of the best happy hours in the area. Deals such as £2.50 for a beer or a spirit and mixer and £10 for two cocktails ensure that this place is always jumping when that magic hour comes around.
The Ice Wharf
It may be a Spoons but The Ice Wharf has a cracking location right on Camden Lock and, like all Whetherspoons, you get exactly what it says on the tin: dependably affordable drinks, standard pub food, classic tunes and a friendly, fun vibe. Particularly enjoyable on those rare sunny days when you can get together with the whole squad on one of their big, picnic-bench tables right on the water.
Proudly perched right on Camden High Street, Belushi’s is a no-nonsense bar that hosts cracking live music nights and serves delicious food and drinks that always hit the spot. It doesn’t take much to get the party in full swing at Belushi’s but their generous Happy Hour definitely helps to move things along. With two G&Ts for a tenner and epic grazing platters for £10 too, there’s much to love about this Camden spot. And we haven’t even started on the legendary beer pong events...
The Lyttelton Arms
This pub draws punters both for its TV fame (it was featured in Peaky Blinders and was actually caught up in the 1920s racetrack wars) and its great value booze and grub. Named after musician and Camden resident Humphrey Littleton, The Lyttelton Arms is a real local gem. It’s a classic pub with more than a touch of elegance - there’s quinoa on the menu - and a distinctive fire engine red bar. Bonus: they make some of the biggest, juiciest burgers in Camden.
Lockside is a Camden local favourite. Taking pride of place atop the food market, it overlooks the canal and has a gorgeous outdoor terrace that is one of the best places to hang out on a sunny day in London. Open until 3am on weekends, anyone and everyone comes to Lockside for their banging tunes played by both resident and guest DJs who spin everything from Garage to 80s synth pop. Best of all, the drinks prices are more than affordable and the food - inspired by Tex Mex classics - is simply delicious.
